This second part of my first introduction (below) is simply to add that I have found that most of my old friends live in an echo chamber. I still consider them friends, but they have told me that they rely on a select few sources for their news and opinion. Those sources have all been liberal.

If someone only listens to Rush Limbaugh and gets their info and opinions from that source, they will be a conservative. The opposite is also true, but my friends from the old days do not seem to see this.I did some work for a person who worked at a big hospital research facility. After our discussion of politics, he told me he had heard that people held my views, but he had never met anyone who did. Still, he did not feel he was only hearing one side of the story.

I will not be surprised or offended by people's views expressed here. I only hope the people who express them have not just repeated something without having tried to see if there was more to the story. This is not personal, rather it is important for the same reasons it was important in late-1700's America.

  1. Okay, I'm honored to be the first to comment, and I'm sure there will be many more to come! My comment isn't directed toward anything in particular that you said. Through the last decade or so of my life, I've become more "in tune" with what goes on around the the world and what makes our society "tick". What I have noticed is a lot of criticism, sarcasm and blame. It seems no one wants to trust anyone, whether it's a friend, a co-worker or even-surprise-our Commander In Chief. Everyone seems quick to judge, and I think a lot of people just don't want to budge because they may feel like they're backing down or showing weakness. I support our President now, and I'd be supporting him if his name were John McCain(Can't necessarily say I would be so supportive if her name were Sarah Palin, but that's a whole 'nother Blog!) But that's what's great about our country, you can believe who you want to believe in, you can trust who you want to trust, you can say what you want to say, and the best part is-you won't be tortured or shot for doing any of those things, and that is why I love this country! I think a lot of people take this country for granted, take their freedom for granted. I wish people were more like you, Rob, open-minded, willing to see both sides and not be so quick to criticize. I like looking at things from all points of view, and I like hearing people's opinions, because it gives me the chance to see things in a way that I might not have seen them before. I hope that by following this blog, people who were quick to judge or think they know it all, will become more open-minded and learn to consider other people's perspectives on issues. I think it will be interesting, and I love hearing your twist on things....Now, about Michael Moore, that guy's a doofus!

  2. Thanks for your thoughts, Alyce. Being my niece, you may be especially kind in your opinions about my approach and likewise I may do the same when commenting on your points of view. But that makes for a civil discussion, which is helpful.
You did hit on a couple topics I am going to post about, so thanks again.
